Important 'Search' Update

I've been doing alot of thinking about the Search and the voting periods and have decided that rather than have voting weeks right up until the fitting on the 15th of January the competition will close on the 2nd of January. The twelve finalists will be announced on the 2nd of January and then on the 9th of January 4 girls will be cut and the top 8 will be decided. On the 14th January the top 8 will be narrowed to just 5 girls. The winner of the search will be announced the following weekend on the 15th of January at the Alyssa-Jane fitting.

To be fair to new entrants I have added more wildcard votes which means that there are still 3 finalist and 3 wildcard places left. If you are wanting to be the first Alyssa-Jane model then it is very important that you make sure you get people to continue to like your photo.

Also, an important note to all the finalists. When choosing the top 8 and then the top 5 I will be taking into consideration the photo which you have submitted but I would also like to know what your previous model experience is, if you have any additional photos you would like to add to show your experience and also why you want to be the face of Alyssa-Jane. The more you submit to me the better your chance at becoming our new face!

Search For The Face of Alyssa-Jane: A WARNING!

I was browsing through the finalists album today and came across a photo with negative comments about another entrant. It annoys me to think that girls who are competing to be the face of Alyssa-Jane and wanting to represent my label would present themselves in such a way.

I have issued a warning this morning to all entrants and their friends, and the entrant who was making negative comments has since been deleted from the album and will no longer be considered for any Alyssa-Jane position.

For everyone who has entered or voted, please remember I am taking this VERY seriously. Alyssa-Jane does not want to be associated in any way with negative comments or online bullying. I am looking for a face to represent my label so please keep in mind that your actions and the things you say reflect not only on you but also myself and the future of the Alyssa-Jane label.

Warning as posted on Facebook:
Would like to make it very clear to ALL entrants of the competition & the friends who are voting that rude comments will NOT be tolerated. Anyone who posts negative comments on photos will be deleted from the competition and blocked from the Alyssa-Jane site. Not only are you creating a bad image for yourself you are also creating a bad image for the Alyssa-Jane brand. Consider this your first and only warning.

Search For The Face of Alyssa-Jane

So, the search for the face of Alyssa-Jane is currently in the third week and I've already had over 60 girls apply! I'm so happy that so many beautiful girls are interested in working with me and the label.
I've decided to change the way the competition will work as well, I'll be announcing finalists based on likes every week until the 14th of January but on certain weeks I'll also be choosing wildcards. Then, on the 15th of January I will choose the new face of Alyssa-Jane from the 15 finalists.

I'm so pleased to be able to announce that the first finalists are Pru Coffey and Chrissi Nero!

The first two wildcards have also been decided and are Chloe Maxwell and Jessica Street!

I've also been doing weekly leaderboards which give the girls an idea of where they sit compared to the other girls for their photo 'likes'.  Plus, its interesting to see who exactly is working hard on getting people to like their photo!

Models!

I've been pretty busy over the last couple of days trying to get together stuff for the model interview and fitting and also organising the shoot that I completely forgot about the Search For The Face of Alyssa-Jane!

I'm running a competition where models can have their photos listed on the fan page and have their friends vote for them to become the face of Alyssa-Jane. Im so excited to see who the fans of the page vote for. I'm also really excited to see how many girls would be interested in working with a new fashion label.

The competition will run over 2 months and 8 finalists will be chosen based on the number of likes they have on their photo. Then on the 14th of January next year Im going to have the extremely hard task of choosing a winner.

Its such exciting times ahead for Alyssa-Jane where new models are concerned and Im so excited to meet them and get to know them all!!

On Track...

I went to Spotlight (www.spotlight.com.au) today to try and find the rest of the fabrics for the first collection & I managed to get everything I was needing!

Here's a sample photo of the rest of the fabrics...

I only ended up buying 4 more lots as I pretty much already had everything from my first order from fabric.com, I also managed to score cotton and zippers to match all the colours of the dresses. I also decided to buy a bodice pattern as I was trying to work on the pattern myself and it was turning out to be extremely challenging.

I definately feel like I'm on track to meet the January 14th deadline I've set for myself. I've got all the beautiful models coming up on the 15th of January for a fitting for the first shoot so it definately gives me something to work towards.

Fingers crossed the production will run smooth!

Fabrics Are Here!

I'm so excited, some of the fabrics arrived today. Here's a snap shot of what I've got together so far...

I've still got to order some blue satin and chiffon, green apple chiffon and some coral coloured chiffon before I've got everything I need.

But of course what's fashion without a little drama! I was also expecting to get green apple satin in this order but recieved this instead...

Im not really sure if it'd make a nice dress, perhaps a fairly decent table cloth? haha. Hopefully Ill have the green satin to replace it in the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed.

The Wonderland Collection

As I mentioned before I've decided to change the name of the first collection to the 'Wonderland' Collection and I've created a collection logo! Here it is:

I plan on doing the promotional shoot for the collection in a garden and the idea of a wonderland just fits perfectly with the style of the gowns. So of course I wanted a logo that fit with the direction I was taking the collection. What do you think?

Dreams of Fashion...

So I had a dream about sewing last night! I woke up this morning and literally laughed to myself. I'll admit it wasn't a very glamorous dream, I was sewing satin jumpsuits, lol. Although I do have to admit that they were very cute.

The whole dream really got me thinking though, about the  affect that fashion has on people. I'm sure there are alot of people out there who have the belief that the idea of fashion is just that, that they're only clothes and people pay too much attention to the superficial but it's so much more. Fashion is such an escape, its fun, and there's no rules. It's the ultimate way to express yourself and show who you really are.

I really don't think I could be more happy with the direction my life is taking and I'm so excited to show my true self through 6 amazing dresses that are so much more than 'only clothes'.

Creation.

Its been pretty exciting over the last month or so as everything Alyssa-Jane has started to happen so quickly. The dress form has arrived and the fabrics will be delivered this week, then the actual production of the gowns can start.

Ive also renamed the line, 'The Wonderland Collection'. I had orignally decided to call the line 'An Affair To Remember' but I just felt that the direction I wanted to go with the shoot and the style of the gowns fit better with the fantasy of a wonderland.

I've also been working really hard on trying to organise the promotional shoot for the collection. I've found a fantastic photographer who has agreed to work on the project and I'm meeting with models for a fitting in early January. I've also decided on a shoot location, I really want to shoot the collection at the botanical gardens in Coffs Harbour, it's so beautiful and it just feels like the perfect place to portray the gowns.

There's also lots of events coming up for Alyssa-Jane. The label will be featuring in a 'Launch My Label' fashion show in Sydney in early March and will also hopefully be on display at fashion exposed in March.

Everything is definately coming together and its so exciting!

Fabric Sourcing Pt2

So I've made a last minute decision and Im changing one of the dresses, eek! I feel like the grey colour doesnt really match with the other gowns in the collection so I've decided to change the colour of the grey dress and make it a baby pink colour. I still want to keep the same style but rather than try and find a ruffle material for the skirt Im going to make it from satin and chiffon.

These are the colours I've decided on:

Fabric Sourcing

At the moment in focusing all my energy on sourcing fabrics for the first collection and I didnt realise what a huge task it would be. There's so many beautiful fabrics out there! Im having a really hard time choosing just one or two for each garment. At the moment my fabrics 'shopping list' is a little all over the place. I have fabrics coming from four different stockists, the majority of which are Australian based companies. The rest of my fabrics are coming from the US. Here's a list of the gowns fabrics and the suppliers for each.
